Sahara Race 2009 · 19 January 2009

Yorkshire is one of the regions hardest hit by cancer. Together, we can change this. Yorkshire Cancer Research is a charity dedicated to finding new cancer cures and treatments and bringing them to people in Yorkshire. Our aim is for more people to survive cancer, in Yorkshire and beyond.

Story

Drawing a line in the sand cam mean a few things.

The literal meaning:

Think about drawing a line in the sand – it is not as easy as you think. The line will just keep disappearing. To keep the same line in the same place you have got to draw it over and over again…

[space]

The metaphorical meaning:

When one reaches a mental and physical threshold and has done all they can but cannot go any further…

[space]

We all know that walking a distance of 250 km while carrying all we need on our back for 6 days in the Sahara Desert will be a challenge of a lifetime and for many of us first timers (as well as repeaters), both the above scenarios will hit us time and time again whilst we are out there. For our team to move forward and succeed in our mission, we will keep drawing short lines and taking small steps towards our humongous goal.

It has been agreed by all members of our team; Mark Cowdrey, Takehiko Kano, Teresa Lam, Jeremy Pang, Sam Sefati, and Deepti Vadukul, that the said ‘threshold’ must be ignored. One way or another, we will get to that finish line – and our mental strength will be to draw NO LINE IN THE SAND… until we cross the finish line…

To help us keep focused we ask that all of our friends, family, colleagues, friends of friends- basically – everyone- to support us in achieving this spectacular aim. We have decided to take part in the race on behalf of the Yorkshire Cancer Research.

There are so many children and adults fighting the disease who could receive help in achieving their own dreams with any advancement in the cancer research work. If we can be of any help in assisting the Yorkshire Cancer Research with their activities that give hope to those in need, then we will willingly do so. We would like to use this opportunity to walk in the Sahara desert to help others achieve their own dreams.

So we would greatly appreciate it if you could spare a little time and money to sponsor us. Any warm contribution will be grateful.

Thank you very much for your time!
