National Osteoporosis Society London to Paris Cycle Ride · 2 June 2010

Better bone health for everybody. We’re proud to be the only UK-wide charity dedicated to improving the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis. With 40 years of expertise and experience behind us, we are committed to helping keep the nation’s bones stronger for longer.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I cycled from London to Paris (300 miles) from 2nd-5th June to raise money for the National Osteoporosis Society (NOS) and need to raise a little more to reach my target. I was inspired by my Mum who has Osteoporosis. She broke a rib just by sneezing when she was 35, but was only diagnosed 18 years later, after other breaks. I was afraid that it would get a lot worse and she may not be able to continue living a normal life. NOS has helped her through this and I'm in awe of her resilience and positive attitude.

One in two women and one in five men over the age of 50 will break a bone mainly because of poor bone health. 1,150 people are dying every month in the UK as a result of hip fractures.

Approximately 80% of our bone health is inherited. My Granny had the condition and my Auntie has Osteopenia, the pre-cursor condition to Osteoporosis, so I'll probably need help from NOS at some point too. Find out more about Osteoporosis and what you can do to help prevent it by visiting the NOS website.
