Thank you for visiting our Justgiving page.  We are raising money to support research into liver disease.  Often an ‘invisible’ condition, with few noticeable symptoms until far developed, liver damage can be irreversible and is often fatal.

In July 2007, Heather Jones contracted acute auto-immune hepatitis (AIH).  Heather was treated at the Scottish National Liver Unit in Edinburgh's Royal Infirmary, from which she continues to receive regular medical care.

Like many liver illnesses, AIH is not caused by alcohol or drug abuse. Many people suffer from liver illnesses without ever having drunk heavily or taken drugs.  AIH typically affects healthy women and young people.  Its causes are not known, and it is unpreventable.

On a hot and sunny Sunday 31 May, a relay team from the Scottish Government ran Edinburgh marathon, to raise funds for the Scottish National Liver Unit Endowment Fund at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, and to support research by the British Liver Trust.  Our team "Not Fast, Not Last" are Alison Taylor (SG Health Directorate) and Dr Lucy Smith, Jude White and Heather Jones (all from SG Marine Scotland Aquaculture, Freshwater Fisheries and Licensing Policy division).

We would be delighted if you wished to sponsor our efforts and support these worthwhile causes.  Justgiving is a tax-efficient means to do so, or if you prefer, you can send a cheque for the ERI Gastroenterology Research Fund, care of Heather Jones.

Many thanks, Alison, Heather, Jude and Lucy
