Story

NPOC LEJOG 2010

First up... NPOC LEJOG? Firstly, that's the Nissan Primera Owners Club and secondly, yep that's the clever code word for Lands End to John O' Groats, it's also a lot less to type out!

In March 2010, three intrepid explorers from the NPOC Staff Team will embark on a journey of many miles in the good name of charity. Congregating in Gosport (Hampshire) before travelling to Lands End and then all the way up to John O'Groats and back down to Gosport and then going home again!

The 3 members of the Staff Team taking on this mahoooooosive journey, are:

Stevie-Boy (real name Steve)
essNchill (real name Shaun)
Blue (real name Matt)

The official date for this charity drive out will be:

Saturday 27th March > Sunday 28th March 2010

Officially the distance from Gosport > LE / LE > JOG / JOG > Gosport is a huge drive! By the time we get back to Gosport we've drove a minimum of 1805 miles together and been on the road for around 37hrs. We are going to do this over one weekend non stop, three of us in the car taking shifts at the wheel and rotating to the back seat for a kip when we can.

Unofficially there is a massive load of extra miles (and driving time) that will go down in the background!

For Steve to get from his house to Gosport (and back) to start the fundraiser, he will drive 610 miles.

For Matt to get from his house to Gosport (and back) to start the fundraiser, he will drive 400 miles. The total miles travelled by car (official and unofficial) for the 3 of us will be a staggering 2800!

Why are we doing this?

Over to Steve.  Most of you will not know that in July of 2009, my partner Natalie was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and it came as a massive shock to us, the last six months have been strange to say the least.  In August she had surgery to remove the tumour, then six sessions of Chemotherapy and throughout late January and most of February, twenty sessions of Radiotherapy.  It's a huge slog and it's been a heck of a last six months for all of us, Nat especially of course.

A charity called Cancer Care have been very good, the services they provide are very handy and helpful and they're a great bunch of people.  I had this crazy idea of doing the LEJOG trip to raise money for Cancer Care and was amazed when Shaun and Matt said hell yeah, we're up for it!  I thought they'd have said I was mental or something but they couldn't have been more supportive

How else can you get involved?

We're all hooked up to the web whilst we drive so we'll be updating our mission blog with posts about where we are, photos with you guys coming out to see us and what we're up to.

The blog can be found at www.npoclejog.blogspot.com and we'd love everyone to keep an eye on this and see our posts, photos, location and latest tweets.

What we also have here on the blog is a real time location map which shows exactly where we are at all times (GPS tracking etc), so you know when we are approaching your area

Anyone can view this blog, no signing up or logging in is required, it's a one stop page to see exactly what we've been up to, right up the minute and we'd love everyone to keep an eye on this and see our posts, photos, location and latest tweets.

We have a twitter account which is www.twitter.com/npoclejog which we will update often, our latest tweets will also feed through to this blog page.

We also have a mobile phone for the journey, please call us up or drop us a text to say hello, number to be announced closer to the date!

We'd love you guys to sign up to comment on the blog, follow us on twitter and tweet back to us and ring us up, your posts of encouragement will help us through, we're counting on your support and the more you peeps get involved, the better the trip will be

Just to summarise, the blog link is the only thing you need to track us and see exactly what we're up to, no signing up to anything is required unless you wish to get a little more involved.
