Bristol Half Marathon 2008 · 14 September 2008 ·

Tibet Relief Fund helps Tibetans to build a brighter future through better education, healthcare and community development. We also run a thriving sponsorship programme for children, elderly Tibetans, monks and nuns.

Story

I’m running the Bristol half marathon on Sunday 14th September for the Tibet Relief Fund of the UK, for projects inside Tibet – specifically, towards the cost of a water supply for a school in a very remote township which my brother visited two years ago in the Amdo region of Tibet.

The township incorporates more than twenty rural villages scattered along a ten kilometre stretch of river valley, amongst rolling mountains, forests and fields. For those living furthest away, it can take over an hour to walk to school and the journey is particularly arduous in winter. Therefore, many children board in dormitories at the school and return home at weekends. However, the school lacks facilities including sufficient dormitory space and toilets – and there is no water supply. The only water available is from a river, far enough away to be completely impractical to meet the needs of the school. A gravity water system for the school is estimated to cost in the region of £10,000.

Every penny helps! So please sponsor me to run the Bristol half marathon on 14 September.

Thank you.
