Hey folks - thanks for stopping by.
I love meat. Always have and I dare say that I always will.
Unfortunately the meat industry is, depending on who you ask, responsible for 12-18% of greenhouse emissions . Depending on who you asked, thats even more or only slightly less than the whole global transport sector. Whoever you ask, it's clear that us meat eaters (and dairy drinkers) have a lot to answer for.
As I've already mentioned, I'm a tremendous carnivore. Call me old fashioned, but a meals just not a meal unless I know it once had a face.
That said, I've recently accepted that I have a responsibility to this planet, just like everyone else (Full details of my epi-fanny can be found here: http://www.obscenelygreen.net/about).To this end I shall be observing 'Vegan Month'. For the entire month of November no animal or animal byproduct will pass my lips.
I'll bet you didn't even know 'Vegan Month' was a thing did you!? Well you'd be right; at least not a proper thing anyway. It was invented by AnimalAid to promote their anti meat, pro monkey-touching agenda (by which I mean they support monkey touching, they don't do it professionally as far as I know).
I'd been planning on doing this for a while so when I found out someone had gone to the trouble of setting down a schedule for me I thought it churlish not to abide.
Since I'm going to be suffering for the month it seems like a perfect oppurtunity to wrangle a few quid for charity. I have selected 'Garden Africa' as the recipients of
YOUR money. In truth I don't know much about them beyond what you can find on their website but they sound like a worthy cause. Besides which I gather that over 90% of
YOUR donation will go directly to the projects!
So there it is, one month, no meat, a few quid for a worthy charity & I reduce my greenhouse emissions for the year by approximately 1% (or 1.5% depending on who you ask).
