The number of people diagnosed with cancer is growing, we're doing whatever it takes to help more people with cancer get the best care the UK has to offer, whoever and wherever they are. To donate, volunteer, raise money or campaign with us, call 0300 1000 200 or visit macmillan.org.uk

Story

ONE in three people will develop cancer in the course of their lives and two million in the UK are already living with the disease.

Each day 822 people are diagnosed – and this figure is expected to increase by a third by 2020, making the work of charities like Macmillan Cancer Support ever more vital.

In Hertfordshire each year, 4,696 residents learn they have cancer, while in Essex 7,915 get the same sad news.

These stark statistics are the inspiration for a £100,000 appeal the Observer has launched with Macmillan Cancer Support.

Every penny our readers raise can make a real difference – so donate now!
