The Three Peak challenge is to take place during the end of August. The 2012 Three Peak ODAAT challenge will be dedicated to Simon Parker who passed away in March this year; he was a man who loved his gadgets and his music but most importantly, wanted to help others on the road to recovery. He had his battles like we all do. This climb will also be even physically tougher, as some are training to do this challenge almost bare foot with Vibram Five Finger Bikila! Simon Parker will be missed, however he left an imprint. An imprint, to spur us on to be a pillar for others to lean on.

To feed the hungry we know that we need to teach the hungry to catch a fish, and not just give a fish.

But where does the money come from to buy the fishing rod and hooks?

During a conversation I had with Charl Olivier, it became clear to me that I can do more than just being a volunteer, but to actually being active in raising money for ODAAT. This could be done through doing challenges each year with the graduates from the ODAAT program. Doing these challenges will push us all to our limits.

ODAAT is a Drug and Alcohol rehabilitation program that forms part of HOPE Worldwide UK, in London. When the money has been donated to HOPE Worldwide UK, it will then be passed on to ODAAT according to the donation records shown on Justgiving. I’ve been a volunteer at ODAAT since October 2008, and formed friendships with the guys. The guys have taught me so much, not only the unseen need on our streets, but also humility, honesty and to be aware of our every day walk with God. The importance of being with like-minded people. Hopefully in the near future, I can take what I’ve learned at ODAAT in London and take the program to Africa or Central America, implementing it on a self sufficient and eco-friendly farm.
