Story

David, David, Ian, Mike, Chris and Kennie will be competing in this year's Rolex Fastnet Race starting on Sunday 14th August 2011 on board a 35' J/109 class racing yacht "Offbeat". We are raising funds for "Toe in the Water" through their relationship with "Help for Heroes".

Toe in the Water aims to inspire injured servicemen, who have sustained often traumatic injuries, including the loss of limbs, to move beyond their disability and to become re-inspired by through competitive sailing. Sailing is a physically and mentally challenging adventurous sport and provides a unique opportunity for injured men and women to race on equal terms with their able bodied contemporaries. See video

The Fastnet is recognised as one of the world's most gruelling yacht races. The course of this challenging event covers over 600 miles of non-stop racing, in open sea along the English Channel, across the Irish Sea to the Fastnet Rock, then round the Scilly Isles to finish in Plymouth. The crew are on watch for 3 hrs on then attempting to rest for 3 hrs day and night over the full 4-5 day period.

If you are able to, please sponsor us now, we would really appreciate your support. Full details of our campaign can be found at www.j109offbeat.co.uk .

A satellite-tracking device will be onboard which should pinpoint our position on a website at all times. We will be attempting some form of blog from the boat. Our website carries links so you will be able to see where we are during the race and find out more about the crew and our campaign so far.

If you are able to contribute, donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Toe in the Water will receive the funds directly from Help for Heroes.

Many thanks for your support,
David, David, Ian, Mike, Chris, Glen and Kennie
