Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nurse charity. Our nurses, called Admiral Nurses – who we continually support and develop – provide life-changing care for families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease.

Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

For some reason it says my event date is the 13th of Feb...its not, its the 13th of July...

Anyway

So I'm swimming the channel.  How silly.  With the very kind help of my company, Mediaedge:CIA - its money and my friends who work there - I am attempting to raise money for three charities:

NSPCC

For Dementia

Help For Heroes

Why?  Well lots of reasons I guess, for more info you can check out my blog at http://newsfromunderthebridge.blogspot.com/.  In the mean time I guess its enough to say this means everything to me.  The three charities are all fantastic, and each one has a very personal importance for me - suffice to say enough to make me consider covering myself in goose fat and marinating myself in salt water for 15 hours or so.  By donating here your kind money will get split evenly between all three.  The charities also get your money faster and, if you're a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Dementia is an illness that touches most people, and strips individuals of their memory, dignity and loved ones.  It is one of the saddest illnesses I know, and with an ageing population it is on the rise - forDementia helps to train and develop Admiral Nurses, and provides support for suffering families and carers.

On top of this, forDementia (the smallest organisation here) has agreed to redistribute my funds evenly amongst my other charities.

Help for Heroes does what it says on the tin: supports our wounded soldiers.  Our armed forces do a job that I think is the hardest job there is, I respect and admire them and their families.

The NSPCC is the most well known here, and its of course a really important charity that needs support, which everyone sees all too often.

This swim is such a good opportunity for me to really contribute to these causes that mean so much to me, but its not just me - I'm supported by a range of great people, to whom a successful swim will be as much an achievement for them as it will for me (even if they won't admit it themselves).

So please give generously, and think of me around lunch time on that Monday!
