Post-tri update

So it's done. Phew. Urgh. Wow. Great experience. Up at 4am, fixed a flat tyre at 4.40, left a 4.45, 1 hour cycle to Excel.

I knew it was going to be a good race when Jenson Button rocked up (yep, rocked up) and parked his bike next to mine. I'm slightly (very) in love with him.

So the race went well. 506 people in my wave (7am start), all thrashing about in the water trying desperately to stay afloat. Swim went well, and the cycle (which took me to my office, weird) was enjoyable apart from the crappy roads and some mean hills. The run was more of a challenge than I'd expected - I was knackered by the 4th 2.5km lap.

Anyway, the results are as follows:

Finish time: 2hrs 34mins 57secs (I wanted to do under 3 hours so really pleased).

Breakdown:

Swim: 27:07 (wanted 30-35)

Transition 1 (running from the swim to the bike then pushing the bike out to the start): 4:57 (no idea if that's good or not)

Cycle: 1:14:10 (wanted 1:20-1:40)

Transition 2 (pushing bike back in and running to the 10k start: 2:06

Run (10k): 46:35 (about what I expected)

So finished well ahead of what I had hoped for.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for all your support. I'm dead pleased with my time (so much so that I sobbed down the phone to mum and dad) and can't wait for the next challenge (Amsterdam Marathon in October).

Cxxx

------------------------------------

I just can't get enough of it. Dirty water, ridiculously early starts, long cycle routes and permanent damage to my knees. I really do love the triathlon season.

So on August 8 I'll be once again taking part in the Mazda London Triathlon. The Mazda bit is irrelevant to me. At no point do I get driven anywhere. I have to do it all myself, apparently.

And just to make things EXTRA fun, I'm doing Olympic distance this year. So that means:

1500m swim in the beautiful River Thames

40km cycle through Londontown

10km run (by this point I'll have no idea where I am)

And as if that weren't enough, I start at 7am, which means I have to get up about 4am. And hopefully by the time you awake in the morning, I'll have finished. Hopefully.

Jealous yet?

I'm raising money once again for Kidscape, who have kindly given me this place. Kidscape is an anti-bullying and child safety charity, and one I work very closely with. Lots of love and respect to them. And I genuinely do appreciate any pennies and pounds you can spare to help me to help them.

Here comes the science bit:

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

Thanks very much

Chris x
