Story
Donate my training and get a new painting!
Southend girl running about in the wild west of Bristol. It's been three years since I stumbled over the 10km line in Melbourne. Now I've decided to keep it local with the Bristol half marathon. Those of you at sixth form who used to see me in cross country practice getting lapped by 14 year olds - you will know long distance was never my strongest event...
Donate for a painting
This time round I am offering up my painting expertise to encourage donations! (see what I can do here: www.mojoart.co.uk)
1) To the person who donates the most amount - I will do a painting of their choice with any canvas size (on the condition that £10 is part-subsidised towards the actual canvas)
2) To the person who donates the SECOND most - you can choose ONE painting out of the selection of paintings I provide - beagle, owl, duck, pig, floppy eared dog, squirrel, or lion!
3) To the person who donates the THIRD most - I will give a handful of lovely cards, designed by yours truly.
I'm not accepting £50 as the biggest donation. These paintings are valuable and I will spend a lot of time on them. Dig deep and you will get the painting of your dreams.
Get donating and I'll get painting...
Why i'm doing it...
2012 was a difficult year to say the least, finding out about a family member's diagnosis with prostate cancer brought the dreaded 'C' word far too close to home. It was a sobering moment of realisation that there are things out there that can steal your loved ones from right infront of you - we caught it early. Later that year, a close friend of mine received similar news with a much tougher treatment plan lined up. Sometimes the battle is far too great, and the cancer, too aggressive.
I'm running this race to testify my willpower, to confirm I am strong especially in the face of beating cancer. We might not be able to cure, but we can still damn well beat it. I'm also running this race a year to the date since one of the saddest days of my life, after hearing about a good friend who passed away in a car accident. The first thing I did when I heard the news was go for a run. I'm using this race to celebrate life, being strong and healthy and to turn a negative day into something positive.
This half marathon will be a race that I hope you can support me every step that I run. Please help support medicine get even smarter, improve clinical research and develop drug development. Cancer Research is a fantastic charity and are constantly progressing with AMAZING medical breakthroughs.(http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/cancer-info/cancerandresearch/progress/)
Let's do this for our grandparents, our aunties, cousins, Mums or Dads
