3 Peaks Challenge · 5 March 2009

DEBRA is the national charity that supports individuals and families affected by Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) – a painful genetic skin blistering condition which, in the worst cases, can be fatal. We fund pioneering research and provide care and support to individuals and families living with EB.

Story

YES WE MADE IT !!!!!!  23 HOURS and 35 MINS. EXHAUSTED BUT EXHILARATED.
MANY THANKS TO ALL OUR SPONSORS. WE HAVE REACHED AND SURPASSED OUR TARGET WITH ALL YOUR HELP

STOP PRESS - INCLUDING DONATIONS OFF LINE WE ARE NOW UP TO OVER £8.000 THANKS TO PEOPLE LIKE YOU - PLEASE HELP US GET TO £10,000, WE ARE NEARLY THERE! Hello and thanks for visiting - so here we go - on the 20th June this year myself and my fellow team mates, (L-R Debbie, Andrew, Sarah, Carolyn, and Janette + Driver Carol). will be climbing;

11,172 FEET WITHIN 24 HOURS - YES, WE ARE DOING THE 3 PEAKS CHALLENGE - BEN NEVIS, SCAFELL AND SNOWDON - 466 MILES  in total.

We are doing this to raise as much money as possible for Debra to mark Oliver's 20th birthday (July this  year).  Oliver has endured 20 years of pain - and there has been no let up - his condition has steadily got worse and he is now almost totally confined to his wheelchair due to scar tissue and stiffness.  He always has to wear his baseball cap because he has lost most of his hair due to severe wounds on his head.  He weighs less that his 13 year old sister as his body is desperately trying to cope with the ravages of the condition - need I go on?  No I wont, but if you want more info on EB please go to www.debra.org.uk to view a short video  clip showing the reality of living with EB.

Oliver deals with all of the above, and more, with dignity and without complaint.  He is now studying at St. Marys University and doing exceptionally well - I am so proud of him and what he has achieved is just brilliant.

Debra provides a team of nurses and social staff to work directly with families and sufferers of EB - througout Oliver's 20 years he, and all of us as a family, have  had the dedicated support of an EB Nurse - she has always been there - supplying new dressings, suggesting new treatments, providing medical care and always being there to just talk to - this help is VITAL to any family living with EB.

The charity also commissions world leading research into the condition with the aim of finding effective treatments and ultimately a cure for EB.

Debra receives no government funding, relying on the generosity of people like YOU -  please help us to help Debra to carry on its vital work of improving lives, and giving hope.

THIS IS WHY WE ARE DOING THIS CHALLENGE - I  WOULD JUST LIKE TO PERSONALLY THANK JANETTE, DEBBIE, CAROLYN, ANDREW AND CAROLE FOR BEING SUCH GOOD SPORTS - APART  FROM BEING BRAVE AND A BIT MAD .........     We will do it!

IF YOU HAVE GOT TO HERE, A BIG THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FROM US ALL.
