Christ. I didn't think the NDCS would remember I said last year I would do the marathon for them. It's really going to happen, can I do it? I'm a footballer, yes, I can run, but a marathon? It's for the likes of skinny blokes who can run for miles in the searing heat (think Ethopian runners), not a big burly bloke like me who likes to raid the fridge when I can and run a few miles in a football match every week......
How the hell am I going to train? For starters, I have joined a running club. They'll be pleased as punch to see a bloke like me turn up in my running gear. I'm a PE teacher too, surely I should know all about being prepared for a marathon... no sniggering at the back please.
And on top of all that I need to raise 2k. Honestly, I just want to give up right now!
But I am going to do it. If Ben Palmer can do it, surely, I can. Come on! The bloke went on a bender the week before the marathon, if he can survive that, surely I will be able to get myself over the finishing line too, and maybe beat some Ethopian runners? OK, wishful thinking.
I'm hoping to organise some fundraising event up to the marathon, but in the meantime if you have a few pennies to spare I'd love it if you could donate.
The wife is going to come up with some suggestions on what to wear if I raise a certain amount. I'm beginning to regret this completely.
