Challenge completed ... thanks for your support ... I tried to explain my first triathlon to my Grandma, it was a standard olympic distance triathlon, she said "That's nice dear, over how many days do you do that?". I set my sights on a real challenge for July 2008, the Long Distance Triathlon (4km swim; 180km cycle; and 42km run). Although the one I have entered for is in the New Forest, the only way I could explain it was to quote an article I'd once seen: "it's like jumping into the Thames at St Pauls and swimming to Tower Bridge and back, then cycling to Birmingham and finishing it all off with a marathon" !!! Undertaking an endurance sport requires mental determination as well as physical fitness so to give me a boost in some of the tougher moments of the event I thought I would give myself a purpose. I have selected the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability http://www.rhn.org.uk as just such a cause for the caring work they do, day-in and day-out. I have set 'us' a target of £5000 (well I am not donating the money myself!!!), to be donated in the memory of my childhood friend Nick Maxwell. When I was 10 years old Nick was someone I looked upto. At one year my senior he was the essence of 'cool'. He taught me draughts, had the best 'Space 1999' toys and wore real denim jeans (I was never allowed any!). Tragically Nick was hit by a car shortly before his 18th birthday. He was moved to Putney in 1987 where the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability cared for him until his death several years later. Please dig deep and sponsor me online. Oliver
P.S. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
