This is a picture of Olivia Legg, just before she had major brain surgery in December 2007. She was then 5 years old. Olivia has a brain tumour in her brain stem - about the most dangerous place to have one. She is on a two year course of chemotherapy at The Royal Marsden Hospital. Hearing the (extremely surprising) news about Olivia's brain tumour was devastating for us all. Although she will probably survive, her treatment has led to illness, weakness, hair loss, missed school, fevers and far too many days in hospital. However, Olivia is lucky compared to many - she was diagnosed early, the tumour is benign (slow growing) and she has amazing support. Hopefully, by late 2009, we will be able to declare her OK ....
Not everyone is so lucky. Many children in very similar situations suffer horribly, and a significant proportion die. The Royal Marsden is the UK's leading cancer research and treatment hospital. Your donation will support research, plus improved treatment facilities for thousands of people. When she was in hospital for brain surgery (she has had this twice) Olivia never felt sorry for herself - she was more worried about the other children. If she can be so positive, then so must us adults ....
