Story
Energetic, athletic and adventurous – few failed to be won over by Olly Tucker. His easy-going confidence and warm friendly nature won him hundreds of friends.
Along with a string of impressive academic achievements Olly was also a talented sportsman and intrepid traveller.
At the early age of 10, along with his parents Harry and Andrea, his brothers Jack and Max and sister Cassie, he experienced life on an extended road trip in the USA. Soon afterwards at 13 he moved with his family to South Africa where he attended Hilton School in Durban. He later worked his way from Shanghai to Bangladesh; fitting in a climb to Everest base camp with his family en route.
After achieving one of the top results of Matric in South Africa, he earned a place at Oxford University where he excelled at hockey and rowing.
But two weeks after his 19th birthday and just five weeks after starting his first term at Exeter College, Olly had a heart attack during a game of hockey. It was later discovered he had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy – a condition where the heart muscle thickens.
Olly had an approach to life many others can only aspire to. But that life should have been much, much longer.
We know Olly would have whole-heartedly supported CRY in its work to increase awareness of Sudden Death Syndrome in the young.
We urge your support as well.
