My story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
One Lake One Day 21 miles Challenge on 21st February 2013, I am raising funds in Aid of Blind Sailing Sighted Volunteers who make up a key part of our Team which is hoping to take part in the 2013 IFDS Blind Sailing World and International Championships being held in Miura City Japan 24th May to the 1 June 2013. I will single handed sail there and back the length of Lake Windermere, the home of most of our volunteers and a key part of our training. I am looking to raise £3,600 towards their flights. I am registered blind with Nystagmus but have some useful vision but during this challenge I will be under the watchful eye for navigation around obstructions from the sighted volunteers I am raising funds for. However, the sailing will be down to me with the extra challenge of dealing with the cold. I will cover over 21 miles in one day as due to the nature of sailing I will not be able to sail in a straight line and will be covering more distance by tacking back and forth, which for someone with Nystagmus which is made worse by tiredness, stress and pressure will be a challange. It will certainly be a CHALLENGE but one I want to do to show to my sighted volunteers how much I/we value their time. If for any reason out of our control due to weather I am not able to sail I will kayak single handed the distance. If you want to learn more about Blind Sailing please go to www.blindsailing.net
