Why am I doing this?
Almost a year ago I was in a limb-threatening Road Traffic Accident in which my left leg was broken in 11 places. After getting over the 'slight discomfort' this caused, and having missed out on a trip of a lifetime across the Sahara, I decided to set myself another goal... Fight to keep my leg and use it to raise money for charity by reaching the highest point in the UK a year later on the same leg.
Searching for worthy charities, I stumbled across 500 miles (no, not on my bad leg... the charity is called '500 miles'). We're quite lucky here in the UK; we can go out on a Friday afternoon and get our leg smashed up quite badly in the secure knowledge that someone will whip out a mobile, dial the magic number and hey presto we get scraped off the tarmac and patched up quite well. They're not so lucky in some parts of the world. It's fairly easy for them to achieve the first part, maybe even easier than in the UK, it's the rest of it that's more of a challenge for them.
500 miles has recognised the need for help in such regions of the world and I feel the admirable work the founders, themselves amputees, are doing is well worthy of support.

What is the challenge?
I will attempt to climb to the summit of Ben Nevis, returning to the base the same day.
