At Bluebell Wood, we care for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions. We support hundreds of families, both in our hospice and in family homes. It costs around £6.7m to keep our doors open for families across South Yorkshire and beyond. We receive 17% Statutory funding.

Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.

Bluebell Wood will be an extremely valuable resource for those children and families who will have need of it.For the children who use it and may never reach adulthood , we can ensure that along with those who love them , staff at the hospice will ensure that there is quality and colour in their days. With your support we can build a centre of excellence that will go on to enjoy a national and international reputation in its field.

It's sad fact that a facility like this is needed , but, medicine is not yet the exact science we would all dearly love it to be .

In July 2004 , as part of my fund-raising efforts i'm going to be trekking on horseback through the Gorkhi and Terelj National Park in Mongolia. Bluebell Wood is one of 4 charities that will benefit from my endeavours.

The trek is being marketed as the challenge of a lifetime. As someone whose total horse riding experience adds up to about a dozen lessons to date 'challenge' is a gross understatement ! At 43 years old , some days i feel like 4 years and 3 months and desparately want to blame my mad decision on my mum... poor thing !! I have so far resisted the temptation to ring up the organisers and tell them 'i'm not coming so there' .
Nine years ago , at 6 years old , my daughter Phaedra lost her battle with aplastic anaemia.Hers brothers and sister, aged 8, 18months and 3 at the time of her death , struggled to make sense of it all, as did her father and i.
Despite my best efforts i never found any facility in Sheffield or the surrounding areas that offered the kind of specialist support and network that the children needed. We muddled through as best we could. Your support wiil ensure that , once Bluebell Wood is built, any families in South Yorksire and the North Midlands who find themselves in a similar situation, won't ever have to 'muddle ' through as we did. Please give as much as you can afford and help me in ensuring that Bluebell Wood is the special place that children and families who need it rightly deserve. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. Many thanks for your support. Take care Ony
