My involvement with the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust (ANBT) goes back over 11 years to when my daughter Phaedra needed a bone marrow transplant. Phaedra suffered from aplastic anaemia , but after 2 years lost her battle against the disease. She was 6 years old when she died.
The importance of ANBT cannot be understated. It's staggering to think that ANYWHERE in the world where someone presents with bone marrow disease if ANBT can help they will.
However, despite their wonderful achievements to date ANBT still need to 'grow ' the donor register .It will be an amazing day when the number of donors is more than adequate for the numbers of patients.
With your support that day will come. In july 2004 i'm participating in the ANBT challenge of a lifetime ... trekking on horseback through the Gorkhi and Terelj National Park in Mongolia. ANBT is one of 4 charities who will benefit form my endeavour.
As someone who's had a dozen horse riding lessons to date , you'd be forgiven for doubting my sanity ... some mornings i wake up and i do !!
However, the legacy of my daughters death is that i must do whatever i can, whenever i can to make a difference. Please give whatever you can afford and help me to help ANBT work towards having a bone marrow donor register with enough donors for every patient who requires one.
