Story

****UPDATE****

I DID IT!!!! Race Number 5900, time 35:36 which made me 1657 out of 6000, really pleased with that! Windermere was gorgeous, in and out of the water. The water was clear and didn't touch any ducks, fish or reeds. I gave it all I got for the first 2/3rds but had a bit of a funny turn on the home straight, ended up being sick but that allowed me to sprint finish. I thought I was last and my time would be about an hour so was pleased with my result. Thank you for sponsoring me, but I am still off target, please give generously before this collection page closes in a few weeks.

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. This is a charity which is close to my heart after suffering 5 miscarriages since 2002.

The date of the Great North Swim is 13th September which is also the date I lost my little boy in 2003 which makes me even more determind to do it and do it well! It involves jumping in Lake Windemere and swimming a mile across it as quick as I can, the training has already begun! So please sponsor me now! Please please please!!!!!

Read on for regular updates --->

30th May 2009 - My first ever open water swim at Bosworth Water Park!  OK, so maybe I might have paddled in the sea before but nothing like this! The weather was gorgeous and I went twice round which is about a mile so I know I can do it. I didn't expect the visability to be so bad and I wasn't expecting there to be so much 'lake stuff' getting tangled in my fingers and toes!! Afterwards we saw some HUGE fish, if I had seen them before I got in ...................................xx

13th June 2009 - A mile in a lake by 8am?! Never thought I'd sacrifice my lie-ins EVER! It was a colder day and was quite overcast and grey but still a good swim! I was prepared for the lower visability this time and seemed to get a better rhythm especially on my second lap. There were quite a few ducks sharing the lake with us too, I'm am sure they were racing me at one point!!

4th July 2009 - Although you have not seen an update for a few weeks I have been training ..... honestly!! I have been practicing my open water swimming in the Med, Cyprus. Well, I did lots of floating and I swam a few metres each day at least!!! This morning I went back down to Bosworth and did a mile, the times are getting shorter, I did it in under 30 mins today. In fact I was back home by 8:20am and Adam and Scarlett were still asleep! The water was lovely and warm, about 21 degrees if it goes above 25 I will ditch the wet suit.

1st August 2009 - Arggghhhhh! In this lovely British summer the water temp had dropped to 16.5 degrees this morning, cold is not the word! Although after a few metres its ok, might even push myself to go a little further next time and see if I can do 2 miles instead of 1. I went last Thursday night after all that hail and monsoon rain, the water was full of reeds and general gunk, still fun though! I desparatley need to get more sponsors, I think we might try the local paper!

25th August 2009 - Ok so this swimming thing is getting pretty serious now, twice a week in a lake must be evidence that I am completely mad! BUT ... 21 days to go now! You know, the hardest thing about swimming in Bosworth is smelling all the campers' bacon sizzling on the BBQ in the morning .... and to think I used to worry about what was in the water!
