My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit Our OP. HAGGIS  CHASER JustGiving page.

For the British Limbless Ex Service Men's Association. BLESMA!

The four Poynter brothers and four Exeter students are setting out to ruin their Christmas holidays by taking on 4 marathons in 3 days.

Tom, Ed, Phil and Matt Poynter,Jack Torrance,  Mark Gracia, Pat Manthorpe and George North are running the 84 miles of Hadrians Wall west to east over 3 days between the 26th and 30th of December 2009

Why are we giving up Christmas Parties, warm evenings infront of the TV and good home cooked food? Why are we running 84 miles, in the December cold on the Scotland / England Border? Why are we challenging ourselves with minus temperatures, exhaustion and aching limbs when the rest of the country are on holiday????

Simple! By using the one gift we to often take for granted... our legs, we are going to raise money for those service men and women who have lost their limbs in combat. More and more in the news we become aware of the dreadfull sacrafices our soldiers are paying in Afghanistan. This year will see the number of injured personnel double from that of last year. Just July 2009 saw 94 soldiers seriously injured, most loosing limbs and sight.

We want these soldiers to come home to the support they deserve, they need the funding to help them regain their confidence and rebuild their lives. With the help of BLESMA these men and women are able to take on life again with the aid and support supplied through the money you give!

The money you donate goes directly through BLESMA to the individuals who need it most. It funds new and specialist prosthetics for sport and running. It funds for trips to restore confidence through sports like skiing and sailing and helps the guys get back on their feet! BLESMA believes in amputees helping amputees and the successes to date are incredible. However the charity need nearly 2 million pounds a year to operate and this is where we come in!

Visit www.blesma.org for more or click on the link to the left of this page.

Every pound you give will go directly to the men and women who have paid the costs and made the sacrifices to serve this country. think about repaying your debt to them!

For the team running the course it is a personal challenge, all of us have friends and relatives who have lost limbs and have been seriously injured recently in Afghanistan. It is BLESMA that are helping! There are of course other extremely important charities out there, but it is BLESMA who directly give to the individuals and aid in the rehabilitation of those injured after preliminary treatment.

We have our trainers, we have our BLESMA T- shirts and Hoodies, We have the team ready to go... nearly...

All we need is your generosity to make this a very special run.

Even if every person contacted only gave £1 we might make over a thousand pounds. Hopefully we will make a lot more!

Watch out for us in local papers and around university!
