Bliss is the leading UK charity for babies born premature or sick. We rely on donations to fund our work but with one baby admitted to neonatal care every five minutes we don’t have the resources to reach every baby who needs us. Your donation can help Bliss ensure every baby gets the best care.

Story

Update - Well, we did it!!!

We weren't the quickest, or the slowest (!), but we managed to complete the course with only a few rest breaks and only one toilet stop!  And Phil - no vaseline needed although the beer we enjoyed afterwards was!

Thank you so much to everyone who has helped us raise money for such a worthwhile cause.  It's not too late to sponsor us still to help us raise even more money for such a fantastic cause that provides so much help and support to families who find themselves in the situation I did, as well as research and training into the care of babies born prematurely.

Thank you all again!

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

One in every 9 babies in the UK is born premature or sick.  On the 18th December 2008 my daughter, Isobel, was born at 31 weeks weighing 4lbs 7ozs.  She spent the next 6 weeks in hospital which was a really scary time and a time we wouldn't have been able to get through without the fantastic SCBU staff at Macclesfield General Hospital and information and support from Bliss.

Isobel is now 1 and it's hard to believe that this time last year she was still in hospital fighting to breathe on her own.

My friend Hannah and I are running the Great Manchester Run (we normally only run to the pub!) to raise money for Bliss so they can continue providing practical and emotional support to families during an extremely difficult time as well as train doctors and nurses to develop their skills in the care of sick and premature babies.  Bliss also fund research and campaign to raise awareness of issues affecting special care babies.

Please help us by donating.

The money raised will help support Bliss in the following ways:

£1 will provide text messaging support for a distressed parent

£10 will provide telephone support for a family

£24 will keep our parent support helpline working for one hour

£25 will buy a complete set of information booklets for a family

£60 will fund a neonatal nurse on a Bliss study day

£100 will provide training for a Parents 4 Parents volunteer

£500 will fund a parent support group for a year

£500 will train and support parent volunteers to work with the local hospitals to improve their special care baby services

£2,000 will provide a year’s worth of good practice updates to all UK neonatal units

£2,500 will train a neonatal nurse in the developmental care approach*

£5,000 will provide a study day and support package to 50 health visitors on supporting premature and sick babies after discharge from hospital

£5,000 will fund a new campaign to recruit more specialist nurses for our most vulnerable babies

£10,000 will fund our online parent messageboard and text message support service for a year
