Breaking News: We did it! Thank you all so much for your support, we're really proud to have raised over a thousand pounds and this money will really make a difference.  Everyone had the time of their lives in Nepal but this added that little bit extra to the experience so thank you again. 

 

On July 3rd a group of us from Our Lady's are setting off to Nepal for an unforgettable three weeks.  We'll be trekking to Mount Everest base camp whilst battling altitude sickness and yaks, visiting Kathmandu to try out our haggling skills and going to Chitwan National Park where we will ride elephants and go white water rafting. 

To prepare for our trip a few of us have been doing some practice walks, going to the gym (a bit!) more frequently and have generally been sitting around getting excited about it.  We have also held cake sales and discos at school to help raise money for the cost of the trip, but we thought it would be nice to get more out of the trip than a holiday for ourselves, so we decided to also raise money for a charity.

We chose to support Asha-Nepal because it is a Nepalese charity working to raise the social status of children and women so they will no longer have to suffer sex trafficking, child labour, sexual and physical abuse and discriminination due to their gender.   Between 8,000 and 12,000 women and young girls disappear every year from Nepal,  trafficked into sex slavery in the brothels of India and recent figures show that the majority of women in Nepal are physically abused.  The Nepalese government have not done anything to stop this, so Asha-Nepal offers pyscho-social support, healthcare, legal support, education and training to help women and children become self sufficient and re-integrate into society.
