We support Birmingham Children's Hospital to improve the lives of sick children

Story

In February 2010 our super boy Sufyan was born with a complex heart defect and spent all of his short life under the care of the fantastic cardiac team at Birmingham Children's Hospital.  Our best days with Sufyan were spent on one of the cardiac wards but Sufyan also put up a brave fight during his stay in Intensive Care.  Sufyan was as brave as a lion and as strong as a bear but sadly he grew his angel wings and left us when he was just 5 weeks old.

We are eternally grateful for everything the amazing team of staff at Birmingham Children's Hospital did for us and for Sufyan during the time we spent there.  We have been humbled by the care and support they have offered to us as bereaved parents in the difficult times that have passed since.

Sufyan was our world, and we can't believe how someone so tiny, here for such a short time, can have had such an impact. We hope that our amazing son Sufyan inspires you to give a little and think a lot about how we can make a difference to such an important cause, so that other families with special heart children can have a long and healthy life together.

In the years since Sufyan passed away our fundraising has been supported by friends, family, colleagues and even strangers and together we have completely smashed our original £1,000 target.  The money has gone towards the Red Balloon Heart Appeal which in the years since we lost Sufyan has built a new state of the art cardiac theatre and increased the bed capacity of the vital paediatric Intensive Care Unit.

We have just increased the target to £22,000, with Amiril planning on doing "The 12ks at Christmas Run" - in fact, that's probably why you're on the page so please donate generously, thank you.

Highlights of the fundraising activities that have been undertaken in memory of Sufyan since 2010:

- Many friends, family and colleagues have donated and left heartfelt messages of support in memory of Sufyan (and continue to do so, thank you).

- Ruth took up making polymer clay jewellery, with thousands raised through many craft market stalls and selling to the public!

- Several miles and kilometres being run by Amiril and a number of (much fitter!) awesome friends and family (Uncle Faz, Aunties Rehena and Romana, Kim, Pete, PC, Paul, Jacob, Nicki, Ann, Grandpa Andrew) - you are all truly amazing!

- A West End film preview of the first Despicable Me, courtesy of Sufyan’s Aunty Christine and Uncle Jake.

- Tom, who said goodbye to his hard earned dreadlocks!!

- Ruth abseils 100ft down The Fort Dunlop building.

- Also with thanks to Lloyds Banking Group, Deloittes, Barclays Bank and St. Modwen’s for their corporate matched funding of monies raised by our friends who work for them.

Every penny counts so just give what you can, no matter how small.
