We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer

Story

Thank you for visiting our Outdoor & Country JustGiving Page.

We would like to introduce ourselves briefly, just so that you can gain an understanding of who we are, but most importantly why we are joining this fantastic, yet scary 1,344 metres, event for Cancer Research UK.

Outdoor & Country has been successfully trading since the early years of 1877, we are small family run business who not only looks after our customers but also the employees too. We have had many opportunities where we have helped other charities in the past, yet never held such an event which the employees can be a part of too.

A week ago today it started with only 3 employees, since the word spread around the office we are now confirmed at 9. This varies from a Retail Manager in Knutsford to a Network Administrator here in Staffordshire. Within this 35 mile radius we all have something in common… Would you believe all 9 of the employees taking part in this fantastic cause have all been affected by Cancer be it through family or friends.

On the 12 October 2013 at approximately 08:30, Lauren, Katie, Andy, Steph, Hollie, Kate, James, Neil and Laura will be climbing the highest mountain in the British Isles, Ben Nevis.  located at the western end of the Grampian Mountains in the Lochaber area of Scotland, close to the town of Fort William and is affectionately known as 'The Ben.' For many of us this will be the first time attempting such a difficult challenge, especially as for many of us our current idea of fitness is a lunchtime, ‘drive’ to the local farm shop for their fantastic pies... Although since we have planned this challenge we have tried to stay well clear… Well, most of us… Not mentioning any names… (ANDY!!!!!)  We have also ensured all costs including Travel, Advertisement, Accommodation and Food will all be funded through ourselves.. THIS MEANS… Every penny you donate will go towards saving lives and not to the usual process of funding the event.

Now, onto more of a serious note, Cancer continues to ruin lives every day, with statistics showing 1 in 3 people develop the disease in the course of their lifetime and with our ageing population the statistics would you believe are getting worse.

Most of us do not realize the valuable work and effort Cancer Research UK provides until something happens to themselves, a family member or a dear friend. As we all know Cancer doesn’t just target Age, Race, or Gender. Any one of us can become a victim of this terrible disease at any time in their lives.

We are hoping that each and every one of you that visits our page, will donate to this fantastic cause helping to not only try and find a cure but also helping to fund the life saving work of over 4000 scientists, doctors and nurses fighting cancer. Apart from climbing this monstrous mountain, we will be doing our upmost over the next 4 months, to raise as much money as possible through other fundraising activities, but we can only do this with your help. Ideally we would like to hit a fantastic target of £2000, however we will be aiming to beat this with your generosity.

For a combined effort of £16.60 a day over the next 123 days we will hit a fantastic amount of £2000, this is just 10 of you donating £1.60 a day, the cost of a coffee.

We hope we do you proud Cancer Research – LETS START GIVING, WHILST WE START TRAINING…
