Chantalle's London Marathon

Virgin London Marathon 2016 · 24 April 2016 ·
Earlier this year, I had a moment of madness and decided that I would apply for a place in the London Marathon, knowing that the likelihood of me getting a place was extremely slim. I applied through the general ballot and also with Diabetes UK, completely expecting a no from both (and kind of wanting a no from both!). I must admit, that when I got the magazine that said I hadn't got a place in the ballot, I was actually pretty relieved! But guess what, a couple of days later and Diabetes UK are phoning to say that out of hundreds of applicants, I have one of their few places because they were touched by the story about Dylan ... Bugger!
Dylan was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in October 2014 at just 8 years old, and it has been one hell of a rollercoaster for us all, with so much to learn! One year on, and Dylan has amazed us all, despite having periods of not wanting to live a life of daily injections and he is currently enjoying a new lease of life with an Omnipod. Despite this, by raising money for Diabetes UK, I know that I will be aiding essential research that could benefit Dylan and thousands of others in the future!
Training isn't going to be easy, I don't run, but I've already been warned by Mum that Dylan and herself will be chasing me on bikes to keep me running when it gets tough... I'm sure there will be plenty of pictures and videos of that, Mum won't be able to help herself! But as much as this is going to be a massive personal achievement, this isn't about me, it's about the amazing little boy that I'm proud to call my brother. So please give generously, not for me but for Dylan!
So thank you Dylan, despite how much I love you, I will be cursing you for the whole 26 miles!
xx
