Story

PLEASE NOTE: If you would specifically like to donate to Daisy Garland Charity, please send cheques to PROFFS made out to "The Daisy Garland"  THANK YOU.

This April I am running the London Marathon with my friend Sandra Wilson.  This is my first marathon and probably the last if the training and cold weather don’t kill me off first J

I have to add I don’t think I could have done the training without my amazing friend Sandra who at 60 this March is an inspiration and a reminder to us all that ‘age is just a number’!

With all the horrible things going on in the world right now it is nice to be able to give something back by raising money for 2 fantastic charities.  For anyone that knows me my body does not deal with the cold very well so think of me (and Sandra) on all those long runs over the winter months (yes even in the snow!) and dig deep in those pockets as every little helps - any donation big or small is gratefully received and very much appreciated.

“Dreams Come True” is a national charity that helps children and young people (2 to 21 year old's) with serious and life-limiting conditions to fulfil their dreams.

Every year the charity works with hundreds of amazing children and young people who are dealing with serious and life-threatening medical conditions. They all have dreams, which can be anything, from swimming with dolphins, to meeting a favourite celebrity, or perhaps having a piece of specialist equipment to improve their daily life.

Whatever a dream may be, fulfilling it can have a profound impact on the whole family. Dreams can provide a positive focus amongst the regime of hospital appointments and lengthy treatments, creating joyful memories for families to treasure in difficult times.

With around 50,000 children and young people accessing palliative care in the UK each year, it is their passion to reach as many young lives as possible.

Set up in 2004 "The Daisy Garland" is a family-run, national, UK registered charity.  Their aim is to offer help and support, in whatever way they can, to children's lives which are touch by drug resistant epilepsy.  This charity is close to our hearts since Drew the 5 year old son of my colleague Leila Bye has severe epilepsy (he has also been diagnosed with global development delay).  Since 2012 Drew has been involved in a dietary trial (Ketogenic Diet) at Addenbrokes Hospital which which has significantly reduced the amount of seizurs he has. Most children are on the diet for 2 years, as after this period many children can produce the ketones needed without remaining on the diet.

The charity is aiming to fund an increasing number of Ketogenic Dieticians in NHS hospitals across the UK as well as providing help with support equipment for use at home.

.

With 3 new hospitals waiting for a Ketogenic Dietician this year we are supporting this charity to help raise the £26,000 needed to fund each Dietician.

We hope you can help us raise funds for both amazing charities.
