Emmaus provides a lasting solution to homelessness by offering formerly homeless people a home, work experience and the chance to regain self-respect in a supportive environment.

Story

Hi everyone!

Very soon I'll be pedalling my way from Oxford to Cambridge. It's an event organised by the British Heart Foundation and I'm raising additional funds for Emmaus. I've already covered the costs to the organisers but I'd like to try and raise some extra cash for Emmaus.

So, if you'd like to, please, please donate something. Even if its only a quid! A QUID! Donating money to the homeless in this way is far more sustainable and effective than hand outs on the street.

--------------

Emmaus is a homeless charity that helps people to develop valuable skills and self-esteem and ultimately support them back to work and independence. It is made up of Communities that give the residents accomodation, food and a supportive environment. In addition residents sign off unemployment benefits.

The communities support themselves by collecting, renovating and selling furniture. This helps develop the residents skills but also means the community is as self-sufficient as possible. A report by Cambridge Uni estimated that Emmaus could save £800 000 in public spending due to its innovative and enterprising approach.

Emmaus are in need of donations to help improve their financial independence but also to expand new communities.
