My story

Dave, Mark and myself (Paul) have planned to do the West Highland Way for a couple of years, finally we got around to organising it starting on the 17th of July 2009. Then over a meal I found out that a friend had recently lost her daughter to a condition known as SADS (sudden arrhythmic death syndrome ). It came as a massive shock when she found her daughter, a bright, intelligent and energetic seventeen year old, dead in bed.

After chatting to the group we decided to make this our charity for the walk to give us a focus and as tribute to those who have been taken suddenly from us.

After some research I have found out that around round 500 people each year die suddenly even when they seem fit and healthy. Some do not wake up other die while being active. These death can be linked to the condition SADS. This condition is linked to a genetic heart defect, that can be detected by screening people. People can lead a normally healthy life if their condition is monitored.

our aim is to raise as much money as possible to allow the SADS Foundation to investigate this condition further and to provide vital equipment to help people with this condition so please give a generously as you can

So what is the West Highland way

The West Highland Way reaches north following in the footsteps of famous people like Rob Roy and William Wallace from Scotland’s largest City Glasgow, along the shores of Britain’s largest fresh water lake (Loch Lomond), across the geological fault marking the start of the highlands to the wild and inhospitable Rannoch Moor before climbing Buachaille Etive Mor (3352ft) at the head of Glencoe.  The Way then continues through the infamous Glencoe and tackling the Devils Staircase before pushing deep into the Grampian Mountains to the Summit of the Britain’s highest mountain Ben Nevis (4409ft). Finally crossing the finish line in the Outdoor capital of Britain Fort William.
