We provide emergency shelter and tools to support families overwhelmed by disaster

Story

The (slightly crazy) Millets Team of Truro are embarking on a 60-mile 'Paddle-A-Thon' on the 26th and 27th of May 2012 - just to put it into perspective, the London Marathon is 26-miles, from Looe Bay to The Lizard. They could face fierce seas and gruelling winds, battling the elements to complete this epic challenge for ShelterBox. We are hoping to make enough speed to cover 30-miles a day, which against the elements and the open sea PLUS hazard avoidance and tidal considerations, is no easy task!

The goal is to raise as much money as possible for the locally based disaster relief charity, which provides shelter, warmth and dignity for the survivors of natural disasters worldwide. One box of life saving goods cost £590 and we would love to raise enough for more than one!

ShelterBox is an international disaster relief charity that provides emergency shelter and life-saving supplies to families around the world who are affected by disasters. Since 2000, ShelterBox have responded to earthquakes, floods, volcanoes, tsunamis, hurricanes, landslides, typhoons and conflict delivering lifesaving aid to families across the globe at a time when they need it most! ShelterBox aims to help the areas where the need is the greatest by providing shelter, warmth, comfort and dignity to families in the immediate aftermath of a disaster. Each big, green ShelterBox is tailored to every disaster but typically contains a disaster relief tent for an extended family, blankets, water purification and storage equipment, cooking utensils, a stove, a basic tool kit, a children's activity pack and other vital items.

After speaking to Tim Bunting (The ShelterBox UK General Manager) he said; "We are delighted that the Millets team from Truro have decided to support ShelterBox during their kayaking challenge and wish them good luck! Without the vital funds and awareness raised by our supporters, we would not be able to provide shelter, warmth and dignity to survivors or natural disasters worldwide."

So come on everyone!! Be as generous as possible and sponsor us in this slightly mad event, it would be greatly appreciated!! (All donations made are going DIRECTLY to ShelterBox!!)

Thanks from everyone in the Millets Team!!
