Olivia's 24-Hour Spire Challenge

Olivia Haines is raising money for St James' Staveley

24-Hour Spire Challenge · 13 September 2026

Help us to reopen St James' Church in Staveley. This appeal is about far more than repairing stone and mortar. It is about preserving a place that belongs to the whole community and ensuring it can continue serving future generations.

Story

I am raising funds for the urgent restoration of our beloved St James' Church in Staveley, focusing on critical repairs to the spire that has stood as a beacon for our community. Just 4.5 months into my role as vicar, facing the closure of our church and churchyard was an unexpected challenge that nothing can prepare you for.

We are on a determined path to raise over £300,000 needed for these essential repairs, but we must contribute around £30,000 ourselves to unlock further support. To help meet this goal, I am embarking on the 24-Hour Spire Challenge — a demanding walk starting after church on 13th September 2026. I will journey from St James' Church up to Reston Scar's trig point and back, repeating this route continuously for 24 hours.

This challenge is not just a test of endurance but a heartfelt plea for help. Your support can make all the difference in reopening our cherished building and preserving its legacy. Please join me in this vital cause by donating generously today. Together, we can restore St James' and keep its spirit alive.

(With thanks to our event sponsors, for the support in this event: inov-8, Adam Thwaites Fitness, SELAH by Naomi.)
