Story
My grandad meant the world to me, we spent many days enjoying the countryside. Michael James Knott (Jimmy to his friends) was my hero, he taught me so much and we made so many memories. What better way to honor a man, who never took the easy route, than to take on the challenge of the West Highlands Way this September with my trusty terrier Ernie. Grandad loved terriers, and his love for them runs through me, so its fitting that my companion is a terrier (God help me)
Grandad was diagnosed with Lewy body and every day it robbed him of his fondest memories, it was utterly heart breaking to watch.
My back story, I lost my grandad 2 years ago to lewy body dementia! It was horrible! Thats not a word id use to describe watching your hero slowly waste away and in his final moments not have a clue who or why these strangers (his loved ones) where there comforting him in his final moments. I was so angry, I cant begin to explain the anger I felt in those final moments. But all I could do was hold his hand and tell him id see him soon. 😭
Fast foward 2 years, ive been racking my brains on a way to raise funds and honor his memory! *tahdah* the west highlands way! Jimmy would absolutely love it! Its going to be brutal! Its going to be emotional, its going to be mentally and physically exhausting. Ive got a degenerative spinal disease along with other health complications so it wont be a walk in a few days,
Ive chosen this solo challenge to help raise funds and awareness about this cruel disease! This next chapters for you Jimmy 💙
The Lewy Body Society was founded in 2006 to support research into Lewy body dementia and to raise awareness of the disease. We aim to educate the public, the medical professions and those in decision-making positions about the disease, which unfortunately is still not well known.
