Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer. Just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this disease. We are a leading voice calling for support and action for research into what is called the last battleground against cancer.

Story

I set myself the goal of running the half marathon as part of my 30 before 30 list. I started running in March 2024 as I was overcoming a few challenges in my life and wanted to start a new hobby.

My family member mentioned linking the event to a fundraiser to support a local charity. Brain Tumour Research sits strongly with me as my lovely Auntie Lou, my mum's sister, passed away of a brain tumour aged 48 in July 2017. I think of her always, have gifts she left for me on my 21st birthday by my bedside in my room, coincidentally next to a photo of my first ever 5k race.

I want to use this to motivate me to do the best I can in the run, honour the memory of my beautiful Auntie, and to help others who are going through this and their family members, hope of finding a cure.

I am running this race with the support of my best friend Becky, who saw me struggle through a 3k run round Clapham Common a few years ago and probably can’t believe we got here! Could not do this without her.
