Cycling the Outer Hebrides Challenge

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People trains dogs to alert deaf people to important and life-saving sounds such as the smoke alarm, alarm clock, intruder alarms and baby monitors. These amazing dogs also help deaf people to leave loneliness behind by providing love, companionship and emotional support.

Story

In May we are undertaking a cycle challenge in the Outer Hebrides. We will be cycling the length of the Outer Hebrides from Vatersay in the south to The Butt of Lewis in the north. The route is 185 miles and travels up through 10 islands using 6 causeways and 2 ferries and that`s not counting the ferries from Oban to Castlebay and Stornoway to Ullapool.

This is a significant challenge for us as Paula has not cycled for some considerable time!! We will also be taking our dog Jarvis with us who will be travelling in his trailer towed by yours truly!

The difficulty of the challenge cannot be underestimated as the weather can prove to be somewhat challenging (brutal!!) to put it mildly!! The Outer Hebrides weather may well test the limits of our biking resolve. We hope for a south westerly wind behind us. Local business`s both at home and on the islands have been fantastic and our thanks go out to them for their support.

We have had personal experience of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People in our family and we cannot sing their praises highly enough – they are an amazing charity and deserve your support.

The charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People relies completely on the kindness of it`s supporters. Without their generosity they would not be able to continue training amazing hearing dogs that help deaf people to leave loneliness behind and reconnect with life. I would like to encourage you to become a supporter by donating to our fundraiser.
