Andy's fundraiser for The Oxygen Works

Andy O'Connor is raising money for The Oxygen Works

The Affric Kintail "Oxygen Works" Walk · 25 July 2026

The Oxygen Works is a charity based in the Highlands of Scotland, supporting people with neurological and complex health conditions. We provide accessible, person centred therapies and support that help people improve wellbeing, independence and quality of life across the north of Scotland.

Story

The Oxygen Works is a local, independent Scottish charity (SC020475) based in Inverness.  We provide oxygen therapy and personalised support and treatments to people living in the Scottish Highlands.

Across all of our operations and interactions we focus on the individuals we support at all times.  Providing the highest standard of treatment and client care.  We operate an environment of trust and respect to provide a positive experience for all.

"I’ll be taking on the Affric Kintail Way—but with a twist.

My original plan was to carry an oxygen cylinder across the full 44-mile route over several days. However, after some (very sensible!) advice, we’ve had to rethink this—given the cylinders weigh up to 78kg, are commercially rented, and come with significant risk if damaged.

So instead, we’ve adapted the challenge.

Over two days, a small team (myself and three others—plus anyone keen to join!) will complete the route from Morvich to Drumnadrochit, carrying the equivalent weight in relay format. We’ll each take turns carrying the load, along with all the additional kit needed to complete the challenge.

A bit of background on why this means so much to me…

Having recently joined Inverness Chamber of Commerce, I attended my first networking event where I met Jenni Donnelly, General Manager at The Oxygen Works. We instantly connected, and hearing more about the charity really struck a chord.

I then connected with Leigh-Ann and came across a post that stopped me in my tracks:

“The Oxygen Works saved my life… Everyone is brought to life here.”

That was it—I knew I wanted to get involved.

When I later visited the centre, I bumped into a friend of over 20 years (Chris), who was there for rehabilitation following a stroke. Seeing firsthand the impact the facility has had on his recovery made things even clearer—this is a place that truly changes lives.

I’ve since set up a JustGiving page with a target of £10,000. It’s ambitious—but hopefully just the start.
