My girlfriend, Maddy, was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour in August 2025. She underwent surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy and throughout her journey she received incredible support from both Cancer Research UK and the Monkey Tree Charity.

Following surgery, Maddy was temporarily unable to walk, something she still struggles with now. The Monkey Tree Charity offered Maddy a wheelchair. Furthermore, Maddy was offered a crocheted monkey and accessories to decorate her wheelchair, which brought her comfort and positivity during an incredibly difficult time. The charity was founded by two parents, in memory of their daughter, Evie, who sadly passed away after being diagnosed with a rare cancer. Inspired by their loss, they created the charity to support other families facing similar challenges.

Cancer Research UK has carried out some incredible work into researching and exploring cancer and treatment development. Maddy was diagnosed with a type of tumour that is more commonly found in children, but thanks to Cancer Research and the clinical trials that had previously been funded for this specific cancer, Maddy is now Cancer Free after receiving the correct treatment.

Both charities have shown my girlfriend tremendous kindness and support throughout her cancer journey, and I would love this day to help raise as much money as possible for these two amazing charities.

The match is taking place at Long Sutton Cricket Club (TA10 9NT) on Monday 31st August. Entry opens at 12:30pm, with the match starting at 2pm.

Entry to the event is by open donation, which can be made upon arrival on the day. All funds raised on the day, including entry donations, will be donated to The Monkey Tree.
