Story

I actually can't believe I am writing this Archie, Myself and Robin will all be shaving our heads and heres why. Please Donate if you can.

So just over 2 weeks ago on Friday 14th October our world was shattered as we were told the horrendous news that Archie, our kind, loving, funny, amazing 15 year old son has CANCER. It's been confirmed that it is EWINGS SARCOMA BONE CANCER.

He attended an MRI appointment we had after presenting at A&E on Friday 7th Oct. They found a tumour on the base of his spine which we now know can not be operated on as it' intertwind with nerve endings. The plan at this stage is for at least 9 months of intensive chemotherapy ( which he has already started) then radiotherapy.

Since we were first told on 14th it has been a whirlwind of being bombarded by information, seeing consultants, Doctors and just sooo many people. We have been thrown into a world no one want to be a part of.

Archie underwent surgery on Monday 17th Oct to have a portacarth placed were his chemotherapy will be administered through, he had biopsies and bone marrow aspirated. He has also had every scan possible I think. Ct scan on lungs is clear so it hasn't spread to his lungs. We are awaiting other results from a full body bone scan to see if it has spread elsewhere in his body.

As mentioned he started chemo and we are back in hospital for 6 days on 7th Nov for Chemo then home for 1 week then back in for chemo then home for 1 week and it will continue like that.

This is just utterly devastating for Archie and us all as a family. And to be honest still seems very surreal.

Archie, myself ( Lyn mum) and Robin (Dad) will be shaving our heads probably on Monday 31st.

We want to raise awareness of Primary Bone cancer in public and with GPs and wider community. And in fact Ewings Sarcoma Bone Cancer which can be overlooked as growing pains and sports injuries.Mainly in young people, with 15 years old and in males being typical.

Archie had sore leg and thought pulled his hamstring and calf muscle his back became sore we thought due to walking strangly with pulled muscles. He wasn't right for months we had a massage which helped, saw the Doctor and they said nerve pain ( by this point he was having pins and needles in leg and foot) and said sciatica tablets given and a follow up appointment for 6 weeks. I wasnt convinced and it got worse so I took him to A & E and was firm about looking further so xray and then we got a follow up MRI appt.

PLEASE DONATE WHAT YOU CAN.

Thank you xxx.

The Bone Cancer Research Trust is dedicated to saving lives & improving outcomes for people affected by primary bone cancer. Despite being small, they fund more research projects exploring primary bone cancer than any other organisation. Other large UK cancer research charities do not prioritise bone cancer patients, in 2019 just 0.028% of their research spend went to bone cancer – not even close to 1%!

Last year alone, Bone Cancer Research Trust committed an incredible £807,824 to pioneering bone cancer research - to save lives!
