Story
Families with Autistic children may come across many challenges in life, that others may feel are pretty simple.
Being able to go to a Halloween trail or Christmas Light switch on in their local town could be just one of them.
A couple of barriers to enjoying such a day could be;
- Not being able to cope with crowds of people
- Due to sensory issues, they can't cope with loud music or other sounds
These type of barriers can overwhelm an adult, nevermind a young child.
These examples along with many other challenging barriers to learning and social skills, are exactly what our 11 year old son, George has to deal with day after day and George isn't the only one.
In 2022, George was assessed and diagnosed with Autism at Caudwell Children and the help and support we received post-diagnosis was invaluable to us as a family.
We were able to attend a workshop that was funded by the charity, to get a better understanding of the disability and for George to begin to understand his own struggles.
We were able to buy sensory toys at a reduced rate, thanks to Caudwell generously paying for the majority of the cost.
It's with this that we decided we wanted to give something back to not only the Charity, but also other families who have children with Autism to experience just a small snippet of what a Trail or Christmas Light Switch On is like and for those who live in and around the close community to us, to see our seasonal decorations and lights.
Each year our house is going to be decked out with lots of decorations and lights, which will hopefully bring a smile or a little twinkle to a child's (or adult's) eye.
If it is that who ever visits our House is able to give just a small donation to Caudwell, we and the charity would be extremely grateful.
Thank you
