Story

Thank you for stopping by our Just Giving Page!

Juliet and Lauren here – we're twins based in Devon who have set a BIG challenge for April 2026.

We're going to climb the height of Mount Everest across the month. That's 8,849m!

We'll be doing this on indoor roped walls, and outside on the moors (weather dependent). For perspective, on 10 meter walls, we'll have to climb over 800 walls across April to achieve this... eeek!!

But we wanted to make this even more challenging... So we've committed to the (slightly insane) idea of completing every single climb blindfolded.

So why are willing to look this silly for an entire month?

We want to raise funds and awareness for diabetics living with sight loss.

Did you know that diabetes is a leading cause of preventable sight loss within adults? Over 1 in 3 people with diabetes will develop some form of vision loss during their lifetime.

Juliet – who was diagnosed type 1 diabetic back in 2005 aged 7 – suffers from diabetic maculopathy and retinopathy herself, so this is a cause close to home.

We have both been avid climbers for 15 years, and wanted to use our shared hobby as a chance to create some positive impact and change. This will be the hardest climbing challenge we have set ourselves and will require us to climb every day throughout the month.

We massively appreciate any support – no matter how small. If you see us at your local climbing wall, do say hi!

If you would like to contribute to this climbathon, we are inviting people to 'donate' their own climbs. Just join us for a climbing session, and any climbs you do alongside us will be counted towards our 8,849m goal. And yes... you will have to be blindfolded too!

Extra details:

• All meters count – if you don't reach the top of the wall, the meters climbed still count towards the climbathon

• Top ropes only! – no blindfold climbing on lead climbs or bouldering

• Of course, only the climber is blindfolded. Belayers must be able to see!

• We'll be keeping our supporters updated throughout the month and letting you know when we reach the peak of other iconic mountains such as Fuji, K2 and Mont Blanc.

• If we don't meet our 8,849m target, 100% of all money raised will still go towards Diabetes UK

Thank you in advance for your support

Juliet and Lauren xx
