Story
On 13th Sept 2026, Jason and I will be taking on the Big Stroll (11.2 miles) as part of the Edinburgh Kiltwalk to raise money for Ronald McDonald House Charities. This is a cause that is incredibly close to our hearts, as we experienced first-hand the life-changing support they provide to families during their most difficult times.
In 2024, our son Ollie was born. What should have been the happiest time of our lives quickly became the most frightening. Within just a few hours of being born, Ollie became seriously unwell and spent the first three weeks of his life in intensive care.
Part of his treatment took place at Edinburgh’s Royal Hospital for Children and Young People, where he underwent surgery for a condition called Malrotation. As new parents, watching our tiny baby fight through those first weeks was by far the hardest thing we have ever endured.
Amid the fear, uncertainty and exhaustion, Ronald McDonald House Charities – Edinburgh House became our lifeline. They gave us something priceless: the ability to stay close to Ollie when he needed us most.
The thought of having to leave our newborn son in hospital overnight was unbearable. Thanks to Ronald McDonald House, we didn’t have to. Instead, we had a safe and welcoming place to stay just moments away from Ollie’s bedside. It meant we could be there for him every day, every night, and every step of his journey.
Words cannot fully express the difference this charity made to our family. The support, comfort and compassion they provide bring light to families facing some of the darkest moments of their lives. They allow parents to focus on what matters most – being there for their child.
We will never forget what Ronald McDonald House Charities did for us, and this is our opportunity to give something back. By taking part in the Edinburgh Kiltwalk 2026, we hope to help ensure that other families facing similar challenges can receive the same incredible support that meant so much to us.
Every donation, no matter the size, will help Ronald McDonald House continue to provide comfort, care and a home away from home for families when they need it most.
Thank you for supporting us and helping us support this amazing charity.
