Help seven kittens found sheltering in a bin store

Seven tiny kittens, tucked inside a cardboard box. A mother trying to keep them safe. And a team of people determined to help.

When Mike Dixon moved a pile of cardboard in the bin store, he discovered seven kittens huddled together. Their mother darted away, leaving her young hidden in the box.

The kittens were just three to four weeks old — far too young to manage without her.

Mike’s colleague Beth Cupper, who has a background in animal care, helped move the kittens into a sturdier box, keeping pieces of their original bedding. The team kept the area quiet and left food to encourage Mum to return. Sadly, after five hours, she still hadn’t come back.

Knowing the kittens needed urgent care, Beth took them to St David’s Veterinary Hospital. There, the veterinary team hand-reared the siblings, providing round-the-clock feeds and care until they were ready to begin moving onto solid food.

A helping hand as they grow

The kittens then came into our care at Cats Protection Devon Cat Centre, where our employees and volunteers have continued helping them grow, learn and build their confidence.

Named after characters from The Sound of Music, Bridget, Von Trapp, Marta, Gretal, Fred, Louis and Kurt are now a lively, friendly little family. At ten weeks old, they will soon be ready for loving homes. Mike is even hoping to adopt two of the kittens he helped rescue!

Their mum had clearly worked hard to care for them. If she returns to the site, we hope to work with the Vertu Land Rover team to bring her safely into care, arrange neutering and assess whether rehoming would be suitable.

Please help us raise £1,000

Your donation will help towards the cost of caring for these seven kittens and preparing them for their new homes.

Our centre provides food and daily care, neutering, microchipping, vaccinations and flea and worm treatments; there is so much that goes into giving every cat the best possible start.

Every donation, whatever the amount, will help us provide the care these kittens deserve. If you’re unable to donate, sharing their story would mean so much.
