Story
On June 16th it will be five years since I received the devastating news that I have Parkinson's disease. Sadly I am continuing to slowly lose the use and feeling in my whole left side. Walking as well as other things gets more difficult as time goes on.
In January 2024 I organised my first fundraiser for Parkinson's UK.
I rang the biggest bell at Worcester Cathedral to a peal.
This involves pulling a 2.4 ton bell nonstop 5000 times with 11 other bellringers for 4 hours
I became the first person living with the disease to ring a peal on a bell of this size.
It was the most difficult thing I have ever done. I managed to raise £8,200 for the charity.
On June 27th I will attempt my 2nd fundraiser, to became the first person living with Parkinson's to ring a double length peal.
This will start at 9am in Yarkhill church Herefordshire. The bells here are a lot smaller, quicker and easier to ring. The peal involves pulling a bell that weighs almost 1/4 ton nonstop 10,000 times with seven other bellringers. It will take about 5 hours to complete.
