The Dorset Horse Hike

Roger Sewill is raising money for Dorset Wildlife Trust

The Dorset Horse Hike · 14 April 2026

From the Jurassic coast to Dorset’s heaths, forests, wetlands, downlands, meadows and rivers, our mission is to look after wildlife, restore their habitats, campaign for the environment and protect wild places as well as inspiring people to take meaningful action for nature.

Story

The Dorset Horse Hike

Scarlet, my Dales Pony, and I are undertaking a 200-mile, multi-day pack horse journey across Dorset, connecting 30 Iron Age hillforts.

Travelling slowly between these iconic landmarks, which have stood for more than 3,000 years, we will pass through the changing countryside and communities that surround them.

Moving at a pack pony’s pace brings a deeper appreciation of the countryside and a reminder of how important it is to protect and restore Dorset’s natural environment.

The journey is raising funds to support Dorset Wildlife Trust and its work to restore habitats, protect wildlife and strengthen conservation across the county.

I will be sharing regular updates on along the way, so those who support the project can follow our progress and feel part of the journey.
