Story
Hey all, thanks for stumbling on my page and staying to read its contents. I want to tell you a bit about myself and why I chose Whizz Kidz to run the london marathon 2025 for.
I’m a doctor in south east london. Where I work is ranked two out of 10 in the index of multiple deprivation (a scale used to measure deprivation a score of one being the lowest). By this measure it serves a community that is in the bottom 20% regarding deprivation. In any community if deprivation is rife, those who are part of a minority group are likely going to be most at risk of worsening outcomes in relation to their health and ability to function. In my non-clinical roles I’ve been privileged to be involved in equality, diversity and inclusion work impacting doctors and I wanted to do more if this work for the public.
I don’t get much exposure at work to children with disabilities and I wanted to intentionally do something to remedy this, so I figured running for them was a decent start.
By doing that I’ve learnt more about whizz kidz and the needs of those children who require wheelchairs to function more independently. The NHS has criteria by which they provide wheelchairs to those eligible, but some do not meet those criteria-this is where a charity such as whizz kidz comes in.
Whizz kidz has for the first time in their history had to close their waiting list as the list is so long that it wouldn’t be fair to offer such a long wait.
By contributing your funds you are not just enabling whizz kidz to provide equipment, training and staff, but also giving me the opportunity to serve them better when they enter my clinic room.
