Story
So, for those who don’t know, I love to run, not just run, but run and run and keep running for fun. Going out and running for eight hours on a Saturday isn’t unusual.
As many of you know, I lost my wonderful friend Linda last year. She was more than just a friend; she was my manager for years and one of my biggest supporters. But it safe to say we didn’t have running in common, other than me doing a quick run from Worcester to see Linda in Defford.
Sadly, Linda passed away last year on 8 August and, like so many, I’ve missed her and want to find a way to thank the charity who supported her in her final months.
So, for this reason and just for fun, I’ve decided to do the Rasselback backyard ultra race in her honour. She would have laughed at my craziness, saying “Emily are you mad!” but this feels like a great challenge to commemorate a strong and fearless lady who brought so much to my life.
The BYU premise is simple: the event has no fixed length in time or distance; you just have to run the same 4.161-mile loop every hour and you run until you can’t run anymore. The winner is found when they are the last runner standing. The event may last 10 hours or it may last 80 hours, you just never know what will happen in a Backyard Ultra.
I’m running for Linda and I’m going to try and be that last woman standing for her! Please help my motivation and sponsor my cause! Do it for St Richs Hospice and help many more people like Linda .
