Story

James braves the shave for spooky stage role!

A local actor is to ‘brave the shave’ for local charity, CancerCare, in preparation for his upcoming role in Morecambe Warblers’ production of ‘The Addams Family - a new musical comedy’.

James Shields, 29 from Lancaster, will be taking on the role of Uncle Fester, a character renowned for his eccentricity and his bald head! He said: “The musical features all ‘The Addams Family’ characters you know and love in an original story, with so many hilarious moments! We recently took some promotional photographs (pictured) and we used a bald cap. Our amazing make-up team did a great job, but it wasn’t very comfortable, so I’ve decided to shave my head for the role. My beard is coming off too, so I’m going to look very different!”

James has decided to use the opportunity to raise funds for CancerCare and has set up an online sponsorship page to collect donations.

“Once we decided that I was going to shave off my hair & beard, I knew I wanted to raise funds for a good cause. CancerCare supports local people affected by cancer and bereavement so I really hope people donate what they can so my transformation can make a difference as well as helping me get into character!”

CancerCare is a local cancer and bereavement charity that helps people discover their capacity for life when times are tough - with the professional help, emotional support and collective strength to face whatever's next.

More than 90% of CancerCare's work is funded by people like you who donate, fundraise or give a gift in their Will.

James’ ‘big shave’ will take place on Saturday 23rd September, just a few days before opening night. Lancaster barbers, The Cutting Room, have offered to complete the shave free of charge in support of his fundraising, and will also offer James’ friends the chance to wield the clippers in exchange for a donation to CancerCare.

Morecambe Warblers will be performing ‘The Addams Family’ at Lancaster Grand Theatre between 26th - 30th September. Performances are 7.30pm each evening, with a saturday matinee performance at 2pm. Tickets are available at www.lancastergrand.org.uk or by calling 01524 64695.
