Story
Yes, this is quite a weird challenge, but its not everyday I turn 48.
My Challenge
The "David Goggins 4x4x48". To run 4 miles, every 4 hours for 48 hours straight.
Every 4 hours on the dot, to just get my shoes on, whatever the weather, however achy I am, hungry or tired, to just grind it out.
In between each run, I'll focus on fuel, hydration, rest and all the things a body and mind need, but in just 3 and a bit hour chunks.
Over 2 days that will be 12 runs (6 or so will be in the dark), 48 miles (almost 2 marathons) and more than 8,000 calories.
My Why
The last few years has been quite a period of change for me, a lot of sand has shifted from beneath my feet. Staying upright and trying to grow has not come easy.
I can run faster then I used to, my relationship with family has grown deeper, I know a lot more about glue, I have skills I can apply to practical problems and my confidence in what I bring to the world has become more certain.
I count myself lucky. I have people in my life who pick me up when I'm down, listen to my rants when I need to offload and chat over a beer when I need distracting - but many guys don't. Its easy to wallow in our own minds, and idle hands can lead to other harmful habits to take hold.
So I wanna support "Mens Sheds" - a great charity that helps Connection, Conversation and Creation. A very simple, but powerful aim, to encourage men to come together, to make, to repair, to repurpose, and support projects in their local communities. - https://menssheds.org.uk/
My Addendum
To top this all off, I hope that for each of the 12 runs one of my friends is willing to keep me company and do it with me so I'm never alone. (Wanna join me?)
Times are tough out there, if you can't afford to donate to this worthy charity feel free to send me a pick me up message to let me know you're thinking of me or reach out to a friend (guy or gal) to let them know you are thinking of them.
