I have never been much of a runner but when a friend suggested we enter the ballot for Royal Parks Half Marathon, I was sure we wouldn’t get a place…. WRONG.

We are committed now and both Carey and I will run for different charities in memory of our Dads who were both taken too soon.

Havens will always have a special place in my heart and I can’t imagine I’ll ever stop fundraising for them. The support they provided in those final months, weeks and days was so special and I will always be thankful.

Dad passed away peacefully in a Hospice full of love at a time when the world was still upside down after the lockdown restrictions. He wasn’t just a patient, a number, or a statistic, he was treated like a friend by the doctors and nurses who couldn’t do enough for him. They catered to his exact needs and wishes, nothing was ever too much trouble. We got to hold his hand, say goodbye and have those precious final moments that we were worried we may never get.

Everyone should have the chance to use Havens when and if it was needed. This invaluable care comes at a huge cost, and Havens need funding to keep providing it so please sponsor me for this half marathon.
